Music Program

"People who make music together, cannot be enemies ...."

"People who make music together, cannot be enemies, cannot be enemies, at least while the music lasts. We are friends forever when we sing together; the whole world is better when we sing. So let's sing forever, hold our hands together, make the whole world better, come and sing."

 - Sung benediction

Plymouth’s Chancel Choir, under the direction of Bill Bokhout, is made up of dedicated musicians who give up their Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings in ministry to the church.  Although the majority of the members are not trained in music, the choir learns and presents a wide variety of musical literature, from gospel and African American spirituals to baroque, classical and romantic choral literature by European composers. The choir works to sing in a composition’s language of origin, especially when performing South American and African pieces.

Special music is also provided by Plymouth’s bell choir and dulcimer group. In addition, Plymouth hosts a number of guest performers from local colleges and performance groups.

The children’s music program involves teaching children the importance of  music as a part of worship.  Plymouth member, Kevin Dobreff, works with the children, teaching them special songs that help them learn the stories of our faith. The children do not perform for the congregation, but will sometimes sing what they have learned as a part of their “children’s time” with the pastor.

The Chancel Choir begins its new season Sunday, September 13 with a potluck and rehearsal following worship.
